Through the winter the windows of my local shop remain shrouded in steam. Inside the enormous kettle sits in a windowed corner to give passers by a glimpse into the world of bagel making. A wood fired oven roars regardless of the season. This time of year it is a welcome and cozy site.
I come back time and time again for the everything bagel with the zaatar scallion cream cheese. Sometimes I get the walnut honey spread. The bagels have a delicious chew and subtle smokiness. While some might say they are on the small size I would beg to differ. Their rich flavor and texture more than satisfy.
Bonus: there is a crossword at the end of the coffee bar. Tear one off to go or stay for a while in the ambient warmth with your coffee, bagel.
